Symbian Foundation created by Nokia, is now free and open source for all, it was an propriety platform and was closed source for around 10 years. The transition from proprietary code to open source is the largest in software history, claims the Symbian Foundation. Symbian is one of the most widely operating system in almost large percentage of nokia devices.

This is one the biggest news for all those developers out there who were not been able to get symbian for app development. “The dominant operating system provider out there is Symbian,” says Lee Williams, executive director of the Symbian Foundation, “and now we are offering developers the ability to do so much more.” Symbian’s move to open source has been completed four months ahead of schedule and it offers mobile developers new ways to innovate, says Williams. Any individual or organization can now take, use and modify the Symbian code for any device, from mobile phone to a tablet.

Symbian is also on the way of Android as it will also publish its platform roadmap and planned features up to 2011, as said. And anyone can influence that roadmap or contribute to new features as there are going to be lot more new and free apps coming from great mobile app developers who are already working on symbian and those who will start working on it now as it is free and open source

Symbian, which powers most of Nokia’s phones, has been shipped in more than 330 million devices worldwide. Meanwhile, the operating system’s new rival, Google’s Android, which is based on a Linux kernel, has become a favorite among handset makers such as Motorola and HTC. And it’s based on an open source foundation too.

Mozilla is all set to release its first version of Firefox for smartphones, Firefox Mobile (previously known by its codename Fennec) and is preparing to launch a release candidate next week with an official debut coming later this month.

Firefox Mobile and the upcoming Firefox 3.6 are based on the same underlying code, therefore Firefox Mobile is compatible with many extensions made for its desktop counterpart. Firefox Mobile can run many of the same extensions as its desktop version. Among the 30 extensions currently available is AdBlock Plus.

According to Official Firefox mobile webpage the features of this mo-browser will be :

The Real Deal

Forget about the clunky, stripped-down mobile Web you’re used to. Firefox delivers the performance and security you expect, plus all the bells and whistles you know and love.

Site for Sore Eyes

Tabs and browser controls are stowed away to the sides of the screen. Now you can see what’s been hiding all this time – the entire Web page. Enjoy the view.

Touch of Genius

Bookmark your favorite sites with one touch. Swipe your finger across the screen to access tabs or install useful add-ons. Double tap to zoom. So smart it’s simple.

Awesome Bar

Forget about typing long URLs, let the Awesome Bar do the searching and get you the sites you love in an instant.

Get Personal

Add-ons have gone mobile. Personalize your browser and make it your own. Search and install add-ons on the go.

Password Manager

Typing passwords on your phone is just plain hard. Why do it more than once? Choose to “remember” site passwords and forget ever having to endure long and difficult typing.

Fab Tabs

Your tabs are close at hand. Just swipe your finger to the right to see thumbnails of all your open tabs to find what you want quickly.

Be a Local… Wherever You Are

Looking for the city’s best live music joint? An alternative route to the highway? Get insider info and access maps with Location-Aware Browsing.

Get Up and Go

Get Weave and surf the Web on your PC, get up and go, and have everything waiting for you on your phone: your history, open tabs, bookmarks, the Awesome Bar – just as you had left it.

Nokia’s new N900 will be the first phone able to run Firefox Mobile. The Windows Mobile version of Firefox is currently in alpha testing and expected in the first half of 2010. An Android version is in development but due date details are not confirmed yet.

This is a “How To” for Connecting the Nokia Series 60 device (Nokia 7610, 6600, 3650, 3660 etc…) via Bluetooth TM with the Windows Widcomm software used by TDK, Billington, MSI and others Bluetooth USB Vendors.
The guide was created with the 7610 hadset but the steps are similar for other Series 60 devices and have been checked with the 3650 and 6600.

1.Pairing the computer and the Series 60 HandsetPairing is the process of swapping pass keys and setting up a trusted connection between the Bluetooth USB adapter / card connected to the PC and the 7610 handset. Save any files and close any applications you may have been working on.
2. Set up Bluetooth TM on the 7610 by going to the Main Menu, selecting Connect and then Bluetooth.
3. Make sure the Bluetooth option is On and My Phone’s Visibility is Shown to all. Remember what is in My Bluetooth Name – or edit it to one of your choice – this is what your 7610 will be seen as by other Bluetooth TM devices.
4. Right Click on the Bluetooth Icon in the system tray, on the menu that appears go to Setup and then click on Security.
5. A window appears and all being well the right hand pane will have your 7610 (titled what ever you have entered into the phone’s My Bluetooth Name entry). If nothing appears click Refresh and your phone should then appear. Highlight the 7610 and click Execute Pairing.
6. A window will pop up asking for a PassKey. Enter in a numeric only passkey and click OK.
7. On the 7610 a screen pops up asking you to enter a passkey – key in the same number you just typed into the PC.
8. By default any connections from your PC to the 7610 must be manually accepted on the 7610. You have an option to set up a connection from the PC to your 7610 as authorized, this means when you connect from the PC to the phone it won’t ask you if it’s ok and will connect automatically.
9. To set it as automatic: On the 7610 in the Bluetooth TM Setting Screen, you joystick right to the Paired Devices screen, highlight the Computer you just paired with and press Options, select Set as Authorized and Yes. You will then see a padlock icon beside the paired device – this device will no longer require manual authorization for connections to the 7610.

Now you should set My phone’s visibility to Hidden – so that unknown devices searching won’t see your phone. You can still be connected to by any paired devices. Remember to switch it to Visible if you want to pair with a new device or receive a file / business card from someone with an unpaired device.

Full phone formatting on a Series 60 Phones!

If you encounter situation like below on your Phone
1. Press and hold 3 keys;
Green dial key, * (star key) & no. 3 key and then press the power on/off to swtich on the phone.
Remember, do not let go all of the keys and hold keys until you see a formatting word screen show!
5.
