This trick was made successful using a tool Resource Hacker and was discovered by well known MVP <a href=\"http:\/\/askvg.com\">Vishal Gupta<\/a>. Now with Windows 7 as well start button change is possible. This trick has been discovered at <a href=\"http:\/\/mintywhite.com\/windows-7\/7customization\/change-windows-7-start-orb\/\">MintyWhite\u2019s Blog<\/a> which is a blog by a MVP. The whole procedure has been automated by a 12 year young member at <a href=\"http:\/\/thewindowsclub.com\">TWC<\/a>, Kishan Bagaria. This freeware portable app allows you change the Windows 7 Start Orb or Button easily. <\/p>\n<p>If you are bored of look at the same old Windows 7 Start Orb, you can now change it easily.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/windowsvj.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/w7oriorb.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" title=\"w7-ori-orb\" border=\"0\" alt=\"w7-ori-orb\" src=\"http:\/\/windowsvj.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/w7oriorb_thumb.png\" width=\"191\" height=\"88\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click on <em>Select &amp; Change Start Button<\/em> to select a custom Start Orb.<\/p>\n<p>The program will backup you original <em>explorer.exe<\/em>, change the start button and restart explorer.exe.<a href=\"http:\/\/windowsvj.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/w7neworb.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto\" title=\"w7-new-orb\" border=\"0\" alt=\"w7-new-orb\" src=\"http:\/\/windowsvj.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/w7neworb_thumb.png\" width=\"190\" height=\"87\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To restore the default Start Orb and explorer from the backup, click <em>Restore Original Explorer Backup<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The next time you want to change the start orb and you start the app, it will appear like this:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/windowsvj.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/windows7startbuttonchanger.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px\" title=\"windows-7-start-button-changer\" border=\"0\" alt=\"windows-7-start-button-changer\" src=\"http:\/\/windowsvj.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/windows7startbuttonchanger_thumb.png\" width=\"518\" height=\"347\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.<strong> Before changing<\/strong> from one custom orb to another custom orb, I\u2019d suggest you first <em>Restore Original Explorer Backup<\/em> and go back to the defaults and then change over to another custom orb.<em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><ins><ins><\/ins><\/ins><\/p>\n<p>2. The program, must be <strong>run from its own Program Folder<\/strong><em>, ie <\/em>the two files \u201cWindows 7 Start Orb Changer\u201d &amp; \u201cr.exe\u201d must be in the same directory.<\/p>\n<p>3.<strong> Best to always create a System Restore point first.<\/strong> Should you face any issue, you can always restore back to a good&#160; point. Alternatively, copy-paste <em><strong>sfc \/scannow<\/strong><\/em> in start search and when it appears in the search result, right click on it and Run As Admin. This will run the System File Checker and replace all&#160; corrupted system files with original system files.<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>In the rare eventuality<\/strong> that you lose your <em>explorer.exe<\/em>, then from your desktop, press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC to bring up the Task Manager. Click File tab &gt; New Task &gt; Type cmd &gt; Click Run. In the command prompt which opens, type<strong> sfc \/scannow<\/strong> and hit enter. Restart when asked to.<\/p>\n<p>5. <strong>IF<\/strong> in x64 version, you receive an \u2018<em>unhandled exception<\/em>\u2018 error, please click on <em>Continue<\/em> or try running it again \u2018<em>As an Admin<\/em>\u2018.<\/p>\n<p>6. The download also includes some 10 Sample Start Orbs, whose creators have been duly credited there.
