Microsoft has released Release Candidate build of Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for general public. The public build no. is 7601.17105.100929-1730 indicating the build compilation date to be September 29th 2010.

The Release Candidate  built was made available to testers last week. The impact of SP1 on the Windows 7 client operating system is considered to be minimal and addresses minor usability issues in specific scenarios. Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 includes previously released updates and a number of powerful virtualization features for Windows Server 2008 R2 i.e. Dynamic Memory and Microsoft RemoteFX.

Installation Prerequisites : Windows 7 RTM or Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM . If you installed a pre-release build (beta or RC or whatever leaked build), you will need to uninstall it before you can install the official RC build of SP1.

The final version of Service Pack 1 is expected to release in first quarter of 2011. Windows 7 has just completed one year since its RTM was made public.
