TED (Technology Entertainment and Design), curated by the American private non-profit Sapling Foundation, is a global set of conferences formed to disseminate "ideas worth spreading". TED talks which are offered online for free is accumulation of over 700 talks (As of July, 2010) available with a massive viewing figure of more than 290 million, and everyday the number of global audience are amalgamating. TED’s early emphasis was largely technology and design, but nowadays they address an increasingly wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture. Past presenters include Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Malcolm Gladwell, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Richard Dawkins, Bill Gates, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and many Nobel Prize winners.
TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that enables schools, businesses, libraries or just groups of friends to enjoy a TED-like experience with TEDx Events they themselves organize, design and host, here X signifies Independent. i.e. these events are independently organized.
