Mozilla is all set to release its first version of Firefox for smartphones, Firefox Mobile (previously known by its codename Fennec) and is preparing to launch a release candidate next week with an official debut coming later this month.

Firefox Mobile and the upcoming Firefox 3.6 are based on the same underlying code, therefore Firefox Mobile is compatible with many extensions made for its desktop counterpart. Firefox Mobile can run many of the same extensions as its desktop version. Among the 30 extensions currently available is AdBlock Plus.

Nokia’s new N900 will be the first phone able to run Firefox Mobile. The Windows Mobile version of Firefox is currently in alpha testing and expected in the first half of 2010. An Android version is in development but due date details are not confirmed yet.
