Office 2010 Service Pack 1 coming this summer

image

On Tuesday, the Microsoft Office Sustained Engineering Team announced at their blog that the Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2010 suite will be available in the mid-summer of 2011.

according to the MSOSET Blog:

We are on track for delivering Office 2010 SP1 and SharePoint 2010 SP1 in mid-summer 2011… Changes to Office and SharePoint products are cumulative.

SP1 will update all 40 SKU languages for Office, and update the SKU languages for SharePoint. In addition, 4 Language Interface Pack releases will also be updated: Galician, Basque, Catalan, andSerbian Cyrillic.

The development work is paced but the timeframe for the availability of the Service pack 1 has not been made clear by Microsoft yet.

And as the Windows 7 SP1 has not brought nay specific new feature to Windows 7 but provided a cumulative updates, it seems so the Service Pack 1 for Office 2010 will not bring any new features and will be a collection (cumulative update) of all previously released patches and updates.

Zune Marketplace for Windows Phone 7 available for Indian users

Zune Market place for Indian Windows Phone 7 users has been made available to the users via the downloadable Zune App. Although different users have been enjoying levels of success accessing the Zune Marketplace for India, it seems for now only applications will be available, no Zune Pass music or video content.

Zune-Marketplace-615-new

With this, Windows Phone 7 users in India will be able to search for, buy and download apps using Zune Marketplace and will be able to pay in Indian currency and download paid apps as well. Till now, the Zune software was only a medium to deliver software updates to phones based on the platform. As promised by Microsoft within some time Windows Phone Marketplace for Apps will also be launched shortly in India for Windows Phone 7 users.

Those using a US-based Live ID in Windows Phone 7 device, and have integrated it with their Windows Phone 7 device, will face some trouble switching it to an India ID and might have to hard reset it.

Software giants like Microsoft & Google regularly bring out technical challenge competitions for students. Imagine Cup, an initiative by Microsoft is a popular competition where student compete against developing a real world problem’s solution and test their knowledge. In the similar fashion there is a technical challenge initiated by Google, coined as Code Jam.

Google Code Jam is a programming competition in which unlike Imagine Cup, both professional and student programmers can participate where they are asked to solve increasingly complex algorithmic challenges in a limited amount of time. The contest is all-inclusive: Google Code Jam lets you compete in the programming language and development environment of your choice.

Yahoo attracting developers using Yahoo! Developer Network

YahooDeveloper

When was the last time we reported of Yahoo? It was late in 2010 when Yahoo messenger made a Buzz. ? Yahoo this time has made it here by offering a wide platform for developers.  Known as YDN, Yahoo! Developer Network is Yahoo!’s site for developers, where it provides a free access to its collection of web services which are also known as Yahoo! Web APIs and multiple software development resources.

Yahoo! Web Services available at Yahoo! Developer Network enable application developers and researchers to integrate Yahoo!’s internet content and services with their content and applications. You need to have an Application ID in order to use the Yahoo! Web Services.

As the guidelines set by Yahoo:

  • Before accessing the Yahoo! Web Services, you will need to get an Application ID. Information collected on the Application ID page may be used by Yahoo! to contact you if there is a problem with your application. You will be asked to provide a Yahoo! ID and an optional alternate email address for contacting you.
  • Access to the Web Services is rate-limited based upon the user’s IP address. Yahoo! logs IP addresses for each Web Service during a 24-hour period on a per-IP basis in order to determine the number of API calls made by an IP address during a specific window of time.
  • If you wish, you may download a free Software Developer’s Kit containing libraries and examples in various languages to help you get started on your applications. Yahoo! logs the number of downloads made from the site.

The set of API’s include API like:

TweetForger : Forging your tweets the way you want to

I recently encountered a web application named TweetForger which as its name suggests is an application that can be used to create and send out a communication that looks like, but in fact is not, a Twitter "tweet" from someone else.

The only way a forged tweet can appear in a Twitter stream is if you manually decide to share the unique URL via your own screen name. Creating a forged Tweet here just looks like a Tweet which has been forged but is not available on Twitter or anywhere else. You are NOT entering anything into anyone’s Twitter stream, even your own,

It is a fun way or a prank you can play with your friends.

To forge a tweet, visit http://tweetforger.com/ and enter the tweet details you want to forge. image

This is what a forged tweet looks like.image

Have fun while playing pranks with your friends and play safe. Winking smile

Google introduces Plus One Social networking tool

Google has been trying pretty hard these days to make a solid impact in the social networking. Their previous attempts were not very much successful and popular and the failure of these products sky-rocketed the popularity of the rival social networking website Facebook. In their attempt to get something new, Google has introduced another social networking tool named as Plus One (+1).

As Google mentions, “The +1 button is shorthand for this is pretty cool or you should check this out.” However what I personally think it is a hybrid of Digg and Facebook Like this feature.

The concept involved is whenever a user Google (searches using Google), he can plus one (recommend) a link amongst his search. A user need to Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval or recommendation. User’s +1′s can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.

see-plus-ones

If you are signed into a Google account, you can +1 things over the web specifically the Google search. This helps people see who recommended that tasty recipe or great campsite. When you create a profile, it’s visible to anyone and connections with your email address can easily find it.

Your +1’s are stored in a new tab on your Google profile. You can show your +1’s tab to the world, or keep it private and just use it to personally manage the ever-expanding record of things you love around the web.

The Video demonstrates more about Google Plus One-ing.
